Our Mission
The Rosenstrasse Foundation is dedicated to commemorating acts of civil courage, particularly the 1943 Rosenstrasse Protest in Berlin. Our mission is to educate, inspire, and honor those who stand up against injustice, promoting values of courage, resistance, and pluralism.
The Rosenstrasse Protest
In February and March of 1943, hundreds of non-Jewish German women gathered in Berlin to protest the arrest and planned deportation of their Jewish husbands. These women stood outside a building on Rosenstraße where the men were held, demanding their release. After days of peaceful protest, many of the detained men were released—making it one of the few successful public demonstrations in Nazi Germany.
This act of civil disobedience highlights the power of collective action and the human spirit in times of oppression. The Rosenstrasse Foundation honors this legacy through education and outreach.
